Southerland’s History
Southerland has been creating fine quality bedding for over 120 years with each mattress being made right here in the USA. Their story begins in 1893 when founder J.D. Southerland began Swann Bedding Company in Evansville, Indiana. In 1924, he acquired Nashville Spring and Mattress Company in Nashville, Tennessee, before continuing to make more acquisitions over the next 30 years, leading to the official formation of Southerland, Inc. Nashville continues to be a key city for Southerland, as home to their headquarters and one of their production and distribution facilities nationwide.
Quality Assurance
Southerland goes above and beyond industry standards when it comes to producing their top-of-the-line products. Their innovative manufacturing methods, state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained and skilled production team are key in building better products at a greater value for their customers.
All foams are 100% pre-stressed and cut in-house to increase durability and softness while ensuring a “like-new” bed feeling over a long period of time. These materials are also rigorously tested and certified by CertiPUR-US® to be free of heavy metals and harsh chemicals.
In addition, Southerland upholds a stringent Quality Assurance Program that includes two 75-point tear-down inspections per shift. Their thorough scans not only ensure proper builds, but also that each product is completely inspected prior to shipping to meet customer satisfaction.
Despite offering some of the best non-prorated warranties in the industry, Southerland boasts fewer than 1% product warranty returns, a true testament to their standards and quality.

We had the pleasure of meeting a senior upholstery technician who has lived in East Nashville her whole life and worked for Southerland for over 36 years.
